About This Session

Breaking into real estate development can feel out of reach—but veterans have clear pathways to get started with the right guidance and support.

This virtual session is designed for veterans ready to take the first real steps toward building or redeveloping property in New Jersey. Led in partnership with LISC and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (Central New Jersey Chapter), the session will cover the full lifecycle of a housing project—from identifying opportunities to financing, development, and completion.

Participants will gain practical insight into:

  • Finding and evaluating opportunities in Newark and surrounding communities
  • Entry points for first-time developers, including small multifamily and rehab projects
  • What lenders and funding partners look for in a deal
  • Common mistakes that derail projects—and how to avoid them
  • How to grow from a first project into a larger housing initiative

As part of the Veteran Dream Program, this session is focused on helping veterans build real housing projects that contribute to affordable housing and community revitalization across New Jersey.
