The Team Youll Work With:The Mayors Office for International Affairs serves as the liaison between the City and New York Citys international community, which includes 193 Permanent Missions, 116 Consulates, over 70 Trade Commissions, and the headquarters of the United Nations. The Office functions as a global platform from which the City can promote its goals for a more just and equitable society, showcase the diversity of New Yorkers, and share best practices with the world. The Office also works to foster positive relations and to encourage collaboration between the international community and New York Citys agencies and local neighborhoods. The Problems Youll Solve: The Advisor for Communications and Strategic Initiatives supports the Mayors Office of International Affairs (IA) in advancing New York Citys global engagement and strategic communications priorities. Working closely with IA leadership, City Hall, City agencies, and external partners, the Advisor helps develop initiatives, partnerships, and public messaging that position New York City as a global leader on international solidarity and international collaboration in support of the Citys affordability agenda.Working closely with the Commissioner, the Advisor helps coordinate the Citys engagement with foreign governments, international institutions, global city networks, and community stakeholders, while leading communications and digital storytelling efforts that connect international engagement to the daily lives of New Yorkers. The role plays a key part in shaping how the City communicates its global leadership through media relations, public messaging, social media, and multimedia content production. Specifically, the Advisor will:- Support the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, international partnerships, and special projects that advance mayoral priorities related to international solidarity, global cooperation, and the affordability agenda.- Support the Citys participation in international convenings, diplomatic engagements, multilateral forums, and global city networks.- Draft speeches, talking points, press materials, briefing documents, op-eds, and other strategic communications for IA and City Hall leadership.- Lead the production of digital and multimedia content including social media, short-form video, photography, and visual storytelling that communicates the Citys international engagement in clear, accessible, and compelling ways.- Coordinate media and visual coverage of diplomatic meetings, international delegations, public events, and mayoral engagements in partnership with the City Hall Press Office.- Translate complex international and policy issues into accessible public narratives that demonstrate how global partnerships and international cooperation strengthen New York City and improve life for New Yorkers.About You:- You have demonstrated experience working on international solidarity or global justice initiatives. - You have strong writing, videography, and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex policy and government work into clear, compelling multimedia storytelling. - You have proven ability to work effectively in fast-paced public environments and collaborate with senior leadership, government agencies, communications teams, and external partners.- You have knowledge of New York Citys diaspora communities, global politics, and international social movements.Minimum Required Qualifications:- Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, media production, public affairs, international relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. - 5+ years of experience in communications, journalism, digital media, public affairs, or related fields, including experience in video production, social media content creation, graphic design, and media relations. 1. Do you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university?2. Do you have an associate degree from an accredited college or university along with two (2) years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities?3. Do you have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent approved by a state's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization along with four (4) years of experience as described in question "2" above?4.
