MAINTENANCE WORKER
On June 16, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul signed the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust Act, which authorized the creation of the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust (the Trust). The Trust is a public benefit corporation that will oversee the renovation and rehabilitation of the Citys public housing developments, owned by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). NYCHA will remain the permanent owner of the land/buildings and will enter a long-term ground lease with the Trust to secure Section 8 vouchers. The selected Maintenance Workers will be NYCHA employees assigned to Nostrand Houses and working on behalf of the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust. Under direct supervision, they will assist in the routine maintenance, operation and repair of public buildings and structures, and the equipment they contain. They will also conduct visual inspections of building equipment and conditions, and perform related work, such as driving to and from work sites. Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Maintain, adjust, and make minor repairs of building hardware, furniture, shelving, and equipment. - Replace broken window and door glass. - Repair windows and sash. - Make minor repairs to masonry, woodwork, flooring, and walls. - Make minor repairs to building electrical, plumbing, and heating systems. - Assist in relocating building equipment as directed. - Visually inspect public buildings, structures, and equipment to assess and check for defects, malfunctions, and hazardous conditions. - Visually check for and record the observable conditions of the premises. - Prepare reports and keep records. - Operate a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites. - Create work order as a result of apartment inspections. Note: Preferred candidates are those already serving and experienced in title. Requirements
1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a mechanic, journeyperson or helper in the electrical trades, the mechanical trades, or the construction or maintenance of buildings; or2. At least two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above plus sufficient full-time training or education in the electrical, mechanical or construction trades in a trade school, technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each year of full-time acceptable training or education. Experienced (non-manager)
