GI Go Fund has been named the 2024 Champion in Action® by Citizens to provide AI training to small businesses and career seekers utilizing our Center! This incredible recognition comes with $50,000 in unrestricted funding and volunteer support.

GI Go Fund, a nonprofit organization that assists military veterans and their families, people with disabilities, formerly incarcerated individuals, and all people in need with employment, entrepreneurship, benefits, and housing, has been named a Citizens’ 2024 Champion in Action® for its efforts in preparing students and workers for in-demand digital and technology jobs. Announced by Citizens, GI Go Fund will receive $50,000 in unrestricted funding, and promotional and volunteer support to propel their work to prepare New Jersey’s workforce of the future.

“We are deeply grateful to Citizens for supporting our AI training initiative through the Champions in Action award,” said Jack Fanous, executive director of GI Go Fund. “This award is pivotal for keeping our clients ahead of the technological revolution that AI presents to all areas of employment and business, ensuring they remain competitive and well-prepared for the future. The advent of AI is revolutionizing how small businesses operate and how people work. It’s crucial that underserved communities receive the tools to master this technology early. We are thrilled to partner with Citizens to deliver this meaningful, forward-thinking support to our diverse group of clients.”

GI Go Fund believes that the key to helping diverse entrepreneurs is not only to give them office space, but to provide critical infrastructure support to help them thrive. Their services range from business training to governance support, and they can assist business owners beyond the confines of the office.

As a Champion in Action, organizations will benefit from:

  • A $50,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from Citizens
  • Volunteer support from Citizens colleagues
  • Public relations and promotional support

“We are committed within and beyond Citizens to develop the workforce of the future. By investing in nonprofits that are working to provide upskilling and reskilling services, we hope to support the growth of accessible pathways to well-paying careers,” said Rebecca O’Connell, Citizens NYC metro president. “As one of our seven 2024 Champions in Action grantees, we are honored to support GI Go Fund’s programs that aim to expand access to trainings and resources needed to meet current and future industry needs.”

Citizens’ Champions in Action program celebrates and supports local nonprofits with operating budgets under $5 million who are creating lasting change in the communities they serve. Twice a year, one nonprofit in each of Citizens’ seven major markets is selected to receive funding, promotional and volunteer support to accelerate programming and services focused on a topic that aligns with one of Citizens’ sustainability and impact focus areas – Driving Positive Climate Impact, Building the Workforce of the Future, and Fostering Strong Communities.

Since the program’s launch 22 years ago, Citizens has awarded more than $11 million in unrestricted grants and promotional and volunteer support to more than 380 Champions in Action nonprofit winners across the bank’s footprint.
