NEWARK, NJ - Over 20 members of the Father Bishoy Youth Group lent a helping hand to homeless veterans by creating more than 200 care packages for GI Go Fund at their facilities in Newark, NJ. The care packages were developed by the volunteers so that they may be distributed during homeless veteran outreach events in the area. They included clothes, hygiene kits, and non-perishable food supplies.

This is the fifth strait year that this group has assembled care packages to help veterans in need and teach the members about the difficulties some veterans go through.  Founded nine years ago in honor of the late Father Bishoy, the founding priest of the St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church in East Brunswick, NJ, the youth group looks to enlist the young members of the church to give back to the community and teach them the importance of helping people less fortunate in their lives.

Jack Fanous, CEO of GI Go Fund and himself a parishioner of the church, was grateful to the youth group for its efforts, as well as the efforts of the parents for playing such a vital role in teaching the next generation the importance of the freedoms we enjoy thanks to our military.

“I want to thank the members of the St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church for once again showing their love and appreciation for our current and former service members,” said  Fanous. “The amount of packages they have made, both now and over the past few years, has just been astonishing. This youth group is truly raising awareness within their community about the needs of veterans and what many of them deal with, and we are grateful for their support.”

The packages will be used as part of the organization’s annual North Jersey Stand Down for Homeless Veterans later this fall, which is a one day event that links homeless veterans to food, clothes, legal aid, haircuts, and emergency medical aid.

GI Go Fund is an organization on the cutting edge of offering support to veterans, providing veterans with innovative ways of finding employment, securing their educational and health benefits, as well as providing aid and assistance to low income and homeless veterans. Since our founding, the organization has helped tens of thousands of veterans improve their lives and give them the capacity to provide and care for their loved ones.
