(PASSAIC, NJ) - ShopRite of Passaic raised money for military veterans and their families during Memorial Day Weekend by participating in the National Jeans for Troops drive.

During the Jeans for Troops program, schools, companies, and all other employers that choose to participate allowed their employees to wear jeans to work on May 25 in exchange for a $5 donation to the GI Go Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting all veterans with their needs upon their return home from combat.

GI Go Fund is an organization on the cutting edge of supporting military families, providing veterans with innovative ways of finding employment, securing their educational and health benefits, as well as providing aid and assistance to low income and homeless veterans. Since their founding, the organization has helped tens of thousands of veterans improve their lives and give them the capacity to provide and care for their loved ones.

“I am simply blown away by the level of generosity and patriotism of ShopRite and all of the participants from this past Jeans for Troops drive,” said GI Go Fund Executive Director Jack Fanous. “ShopRite wanted to help the local veterans in their community get the support they deserve, and with their support, we will be able to deliver to veterans all they need to succeed. We want to thank everyone from ShopRite for leading the way for other supermarkets to show their support and participate in future Jeans for Troops drives.”

This year marks the 6-year anniversary of the Jeans for Troops drive, which began as a dress down day with only a dozen participating companies the first year. It has since swelled to thousands of companies and schools and millions of participants nationwide celebrating Jeans for Troops Day twice a year in honor of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

The organization would like to thank all of the employees from across the United States for making a difference this Memorial Day. Your efforts will likely surpass any that we have seen since the drive started over five years ago, and we will be able to achieve great things for our veterans thanks to your support!
