Global Director of Product Stewardship, Hazard Communication and Regulatory Affairs
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for EHS and Operations Excellence this highly visible leadership position will play a critical role in propelling Momentive’s aggressive worldwide growth strategy into a science-driven, sustainable and compliant future. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for Product Stewardship and Regulatory Advocacy, leading a global team of approximately 60 product stewardship, regulatory affairs, hazard communication, and toxicology professionals. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of Product Stewardship including alignment of the product stewardship organization with our global business strategy, customer support, and relations, global substance registration, hazard communication, product regulatory compliance, and toxicology as well as tracking, assessing and communicating emerging regulatory trends. Additionally, this role will have overall responsibility for transforming our Product Stewardship organization and management systems by driving agility, efficiency, and quality of response to world-class levels through the implementation of a transformation strategy focused on process improvement and digital transformation in prioritized areas that are critical to the success of Product Stewardship operations. The successful candidate will have routine visibility to Momentive’s Executive Leadership Team and Business Segment Leaders and as a member of the SVP of EHS and Operations Excellence Leadership team play an important role in building and implementing a strategy to bring Operations Excellence to Momentive’s global operations.
- Serve on the Leadership Team of the Senior Vice President for EHS and Operations Excellence, and drive transformative solutions that will bring Momentive’s global operations to world-class levels.
- In collaboration with our senior business, research and development and supply chain leadership lead the development of Momentive’s global Product Stewardship strategy.
- Leading a Product Stewardship Leadership team of over 6 senior professionals and a global organization of over 60 staff, this role will develop and achieve the goals and metrics required to achieve Momentive’s overall business strategy.
- Provide global oversight of a Product Stewardship Transformation Team responsible for the transformation of key global Product Stewardship processes, strategic projects, and related change management through a team of senior subject matter experts in the areas of Hazard Communication, Toxicology, Dangerous Goods Management, and other disciplines, and team members that drive the process improvement and implementation, including business process mapping/continuous improvement, project management, training, and stakeholder communication.
- Oversee regulatory compliance and business growth support (REACh, TSCA, FDA, Korea REACh, CLP, China chemicals management, etc.) in all world regions (Asia, Europe, the Americas) through a team of managers overseeing Regulatory Affairs, Product Registration/Notification, and Toxicology functions.
- Oversee a team of Business Product Stewards and build strategies to strengthen customer partnerships and ensure timely response to complex customer inquiries that require regulatory subject matter expertise.
- Overseas our Global Product Advocacy Team is responsible for establishing and maintaining a proactive global approach to monitoring and assessing changes and trends in chemical management and product regulations. Serve as a Momentive Representative on the Global Silicones Council.
- Oversee programs to train and build awareness of Product Stewardship value and regulatory compliance requirements within Momentive.
- Manage Product Stewardship operations budget and service providers.
- Responsible for talent development and performance management of a team of 6 leaders and their respective teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- 15+ years of relevant product stewardship and regulatory affairs experience in a chemical/petrochemical or related industrial environment with at least 5 years in a supervisory position and a proven track record of leading and inspiring organizations, change management and driving talent development
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biology, toxicology, engineering, environmental or occupational health sciences, or equivalent experience
- Expertise in chemical and product regulations in various world areas (such as REACh, TSCA, FDA, etc.)
- Demonstrated success in building and implementing complex strategies with strong value propositions and translating these strategies to team execution on a global level
- Demonstrated experience developing and driving resolution of complex product regulatory issues
- Strong personal commitment to safety and compliance integrity
- Demonstrated successful record of transformational leadership; engaging, inspiring, and communicating with others across cultural lines, motivating to complete challenging tasks in a changing environment
- Proven project management and leadership skills with cross-functional, virtual, and global teams
- Demonstrated executive presence; strong communication and presentation skills in English
- Proven ability to make risk management decisions with limited information
- Experience communicating/negotiating with regulatory agencies
Preferred Qualifications
- 20+ years of relevant product stewardship and regulatory affairs experience in a chemical/petrochemical or related industrial environment
- Master’s Degree in chemistry, biology, toxicology, engineering, business, environmental or occupational health sciences, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with digital transformation
- Experience due diligence of potential acquisitions and subsequent integration of product stewardship management systems
- Six Sigma Blackbelt or Greenbelt
- PMP or PgMP certification through Project Management Institute or equivalent
