The Joe GN "Skip" Garcia laboratory is seeking a Research Technician at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology in Jupiter, Florida, to join our laboratory doing high level research. The successful candidate will work in a fast paced laboratory, on various projects pertaining to acute respiratory distress syndrome, inflammation biology, lung disease and much more, and will gain additional experience and skills during their tenure in the lab. This individual will have basic biological and laboratory experience, who is hard working and has a desire to learn and grow. The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute advances human health through biomedical research, drug discovery and clinical studies, while providing outstanding educational opportunities to inspire and train the next generation of scientists. In addition, the Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences at Scripps Research trains the next generation of scientists on our campus through its nationally recognized Ph.D. program in biomedical sciences.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Joe GN "Skip" Garcia laboratory is seeing a motivated and experienced Research Technician to join our team. The position will perform various tasks designed to support the impactful research the Garcia lab including experiments and assays. The research technician will perform, under supervision, a variety of routine scientific tasks, and must be well organized and possess excellent communication skills. The position will require that the individual prepare test specimens so prior laboratory experience is a plus and they will be asked to perform a limited number of non-repetitive procedures.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organizes supplies, materials or equipment and sets-up equipment for laboratory experiments or demonstrations; may perform minor equipment maintenance.
- Operates laboratory and experimental equipment such as microtomes, microscopes, electron microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, analytical balances, photometers and spectrometers; makes minor repairs and makes arrangements for major repairs to be performed.
- Collects and maintains data and/or specimens using basic laboratory techniques.
- Aides investigator or higher-level technician with routine preliminary data analyses; maintains research data in laboratory notebook, inputs data into computer software (RedCap) writes summary reports and reports findings to investigator.
- Presentation of the results by using PowerPoint.
- Cleans glassware and other laboratory equipment or materials using appropriate standards; keeps laboratory area clean.
- Attends regular laboratory meetings.

Commensurate with experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent written, oral communication and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to use software for statistics such as EXCEL, GraphPad, Prism, RedCap.
- Excellent basic laboratory techniques including, ELISA & Western blots.
- Knowledge of research and laboratory equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment.
