Vocational Employment Specialist - Part Time


PCSI is looking for a part-time Vocational Employment Specialist for our Vocational Rehabilitation services program in San Antonio. This team provides Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS), Vocational Adjustment Training, and other support services to young adults with disabilities age 16-22. 

The Vocational Employment Specialists support a client base of people with disabilities, primarily high school and young adult students, as they prepare for and enter the workforce. This role works with students to gain broad life skills through Pre-ETS in small groups on campus, and provides Vocational Adjustment Training to acclimate students to social and behavioral expectations in the workplace. The Vocational Employment Specialist is also responsible for documentation and case management and works closely with other Vocational Rehabilitation department team members on other mission-focused programs, including job placement.

This is a part-time position, Monday-Friday, typically within the hours of 8:00am-3:00pm, some flexibility needed depending on school district needs. Some local travel by car in the San Antonio area is required.

What You'll Do as Vocational Employment Specialist:

  • Teach onsite Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS), job, and life skills to high school and 18+ student populations.  
  • Teach Vocational Adjustment Training coursework to individuals with disabilities. 
  • Seek and secure employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. 
  • Ensure job accommodations are provided as stated to increase independence and productivity.   
  • Advocate for assigned clientele to ensure vocational needs, desires, and goals are known, addressed, and accomplished.  
  • Support independence with independent living skills such as personal hygiene (e.g. hand washing and occasional grooming issues, etc.) as necessary for job success.  
  • Support, implement, report, and follow up on positive behavior and behavior intervention. 
  • Document progress, maintain case management and prepare reports in support of the Company, mission, and state program requirements.  
  • Write, edit, prepare and submit a variety of Texas Workforce Commission report forms. 
  • Work closely with department staff to develop positive, consistent relationships and communication to ensure opportunities and inclusion for employees. 
  • Participate in the development, implementation and management of internal and external mission-focused programs. 
  • Actively participate and regularly attend department and client staff trainings/meetings by sharing information, contributing ideas, facilitating and actively listening.

                          What You'll Need: 

                          Required Qualifications:

                          • Bachelor’s degree.
                          • Minimum two (2) years of experience advocating, training and developing people with various disabilities in training and vocational settings.

                                      Preferred Qualifications:

                                      • Experience working with young adults ages 16-22.
                                      • Experience working in an educational setting.
                                      • Certification in UNT Job Placement and Job Skills Training for the State of Texas.
                                      • Certification in UNT Vocational Adjustment Training for the State of Texas.
                                      • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

                                      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

                                      • Requires knowledge of PC functions and Software.  
                                      • Operational knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.  
                                      • Experience with SharePoint and Office 365 is preferred.  
                                      • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. 
                                      • Knowledge of disability documentation, case notes and evaluations preferred. 
                                      • Knowledge of Texas Workforce Commission – VRS policies and requirements.
                                      • Knowledge of community social services and case management techniques preferred. 
                                      • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. 
                                      • Ability to set and manage priorities. 
                                      • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. 
                                      • High level of integrity and confidentiality is required. 

                                                          Other Requirements:

                                                          • Ability to pass criminal, drug, financial, and driving screening. 
                                                          • Local travel by car is required; may need to have the ability to legally drive a company vehicle. 
                                                          • Ability to work flexible hours to include mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
                                                          • Ability to exchange accurate information in person and over the phone.
                                                          • Primarily works indoors.
