The Joe GN "Skip" Garcia laboratory is seeking a Research Assistant III at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology in Jupiter, Florida. The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute advances human health through biomedical research, drug discovery and clinical studies, while providing outstanding educational opportunities to inspire and train the next generation of scientists Dr. Joe GN "Skip" Garcia's laboratory is actively seeking a skilled and enthusiastic research scientist to join their highly accomplished translational research team. This stimulating opportunity, available at the Research Assistant III level, focuses on advancing the understanding of inflammation. The primary objective of this position is to develop a comprehensive knowledge of the biological functions of proteins and enzymes that play a pivotal role in regulating vascular endothelial cell permeability and cytoskeleton dynamics. The ideal candidate for this role will possess advanced laboratory bench work experience, demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within the team, exhibit excellent communication skills, and have a proven track record of publications. Candidates with a PhD degree are preferred, as they bring valuable expertise to the position.
As a Research Assistant III, your primary responsibility will be to support the research efforts of the laboratory. This will involve conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting in the interpretation of results. You will work closely with the research team, following established protocols and procedures, while also contributing to the development and optimization of new techniques. Attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory tasks will be crucial. Additionally, you will be expected to document and organize experimental data, prepare reports, and assist in the preparation of scientific presentations. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are essential for this role.
The Garcia laboratory employs fundamental techniques from the fields of molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and cell biology to explore protein structure, interactions, and functions. Proficiency in molecular cloning, protein expression and characterization, as well as mammalian cell culture, is a prerequisite for this position. In this research role, the candidate must be able to work independently under minimal supervision, leveraging your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish defined research goals. You will be expected to be fully competent and proficient in performing complex interpretations, analyses, and troubleshooting experiments.

Job Duties will include:
- Conducting Experiments: Plan, prepare, and perform complex experiments, including multi-dimensional experiments and assays, to support the research objectives of the laboratory. This involves following protocols, ensuring accuracy and precision in experimental procedures, and collecting and analyzing data.
- Protein Mapping Study: Assist in the development and execution of a protein mapping study. This may involve using your judgment to resolve complex problems and applying various techniques to map and analyze protein structures and functions.
- Immunoprecipitation Assay: Regularly perform immunoprecipitation assays, which involve isolating specific proteins or protein complexes from a mixture using antibodies. This may include optimizing protocols, conducting the assays, and analyzing the results.`
- Other duties will include Data Analysis and Documentation, Project Management, Grant Work, Protocol Development, and Presentations to laboratory and at conferences.
EXPECTED SALARY:
$65,000-$90,000 – Commensurate with experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD's degree in Molecular cell biology or a related field who had relevant experience typically as a postdoctoral fellow or research associate.
- Strong expertise in protein mapping study and immunoprecipitation assay.
- Experience in plasmid design and cloning.
